      Speardiver tips

Euro refers to the round cut notch at the back end of the shaft that engages in the trigger mechanism. In contrast American style shafts have a square cut notch that's compatible with spearguns using American style trigger mechanisms.

Flopper/barb on the bottom of shaft (opening down) is the preferred flopper position. Some divers believe a flopper on the top makes for a more streamlined spear because it remains closed as you aim the speargun, this is incorrect. A top positioned flopper will remain in closed position as long as the speargun is held perfectly horizontal, but the moment it's aimed at a downward angle, as is often the case, the flopper will pop up and obscure the sight picture completely hiding the fish and ruining your shot. In any case the moment the shaft starts accelerating the flopper closes due to water resistance. The spear also spins as it travels so the flopper is never continuously on either the bottom or top.
